-- Manga Translations Guide & Foreword -----------------------
If you've looked around at the translations available on this site, you may have noticed some "patterns"- in that the latter volumes are translated much better than the beginning volumes, sometimes there are different formats and sometimes not, sometimes the method or style of translation is different, etc. Below is a mini-guide on what's going on with these translations and what you can expect.
Why are a lot of the beginning translations bad or filled with grammatical errors?
Once upon a time...(lol)...HYD was not as widely available or popular as it is now, which means translations were hard to come by. And translations that people made were not as consistent as the recent volumes done by Jen and Elina- sometimes someone will translate, sometimes no one will, while other times it'd be translated in miscellaneous incomplete chunks here and there.
This of course makes it hard to archive...and Rita eventually ordered translations from Acclimatic Solutions. Unfortunately, their translations weren't quite up to par- they're often filled with grammatical and spelling errors, plus some areas were translated a bit iffy as well. BUT it's better than nothing, I say. Many of us older fans all survived our addiction through those translations after all. ^^;
What you can expect
All the later translations from around Volume 28 and up, I've uploaded translations that were graciously done by the infamous Jen and Elina- wonderful translations, I should say. So naturally, you can expect better from those volumes. The beginning AS translations, I'm currently working on offering them in html format as well- with probably some edits along the way. If there are other translations available, I will do my best to include or link to them.
What's AS?
AS stands for Acclimatic Solutions which is the people Rita ordered the translations of up to Volume 29 from. These translations are made available to you through both Word doc and Adobe Acrobat pdf files. If you see a Word or Acrobat format...it means they were translated by AS.
What is "free talk"?
Those are side comments made by Kamio-sensei in the manga...so a lot of times, those were translated for your enjoyment as well. Some are provided on a separate page while others were translated along within the chapter translations.
